Monthly Tyre Checks
Tyre checks are more than just measuring tread depth, also check for signs of: excessive wear, cracks or crazing, bulging or ballooning, dimples or warping, exposed core material, cuts or tears, embedded objects, tread wear blocks (the small raised square blocks that tyre manufacturers add in-between the tread grooves, to show your tread is reduced). Also check the side walls of your tyres.
Tyre Pressure is Vital for Safety
Over and under inflated tyres are dangerous because both reduce your contact patch. Over inflation will wear the centre band of your tyre quickly, under inflation will add extra wear to the outer edges of your tyres. Incorrect pressure can lead to tyre failure, keep tyres at the correct pressure to stay safe and save money!
Excessive wear of tyres can be a symptom of serious mechanical problems, or, under / over inflation. Ensure you have the correct pressure for front and back tyres (they may differ). You can find a guide in your vehicle handbook or on the plaque inside your door panel. Checking your tyres gets easier with practice, you will soon know what to look for. Get any issues checked by a professional tyre fitter, If in doubt, do not drive your vehicle!
